Greetings from the Eighth Street Films crew! Welcome to our blog! Here is a look toward the journey of the Knights. How moments in the valleys and the peaks during the 90 years of Wartburg Knights have brought forth notable milestones to the department and the campus.
Every athletic program has their moments. Wins. Loses. Championships and let downs. All in which the Wartburg Knights have experienced, but the Knights always found ways to come back up from setback seasons.
Building moments in their 90 years of sports that brought students, alumni and fans together. Moments where the stadium shook with cheering after a touchdown. Moments where the track became electric. Moments where hope was beginning to dwindle yet through unthinkable odds grew into the most famous memories of Wartburg Knights history.
When the wrestling team first became a national name and grew year by year as a powerhouse against NCAA Division III teams. When the football team had seasons of lesser potential then turned around to be nationally known in the playoffs. The basketball buzzer beaters, the nail-biting goals and the millisecond differences from placements on the track. They were not just wins added on to an overall record. They were the first steps to climbing the peaks of the college sports world.
The points of time when Wartburg no longer was just a small college in small town Waverly, Iowa. Yet transformed into a large presence with a growing national reputation fame.
The peaks at the top of the mountain are not only about the championships and trophies. They are solely about the student athletes and teammates who carried themselves through a comeback game. As well as the seniors playing in their final seasons, games and being in front of the Wartburg College fanbase.
Ninety years into the tradition of the Wartburg Knights have brought such definition not only to the sports department, but to the college as a whole. These traditions help to remind the broader community of Wartburg Knights that the college always has a heart. That heart has picked up generations of Knights father than anyone has ever imagined.
